Commerce Secretary John Bryson traveled to India in this past March on a five-day business development mission. While there, he participated in the official launch of Visit USA Committee India, the sole mission of which is to promote and increase Indian tourism.
In addition to the launch of Visit US, the U.S. State department has made an announcement for a new pilot program that will allow Indian visa applicants to apply for visas without being interviewed in person by the U.S. consular general officer - a valuable step in making the process for Indian travelers as easy as possible.
According to the commerce department a total of 663,000 Indian travelers visited the U.S. last year, accounting for $4.6 billion in tourism spending, an increase of 15% from the previous year.
